You've done it again, Caroline.!! An excellent post and you are always consistent with your content and quality. I love the last picture where you are doing mundane housework but remembering the best of your "canoe adventure". That is what I feel is so magical about memories.
Sounds like the most perfect adventure and you captured your moments perfectly! I almost feel like I was there with you . . . well except for the sunburn! Ugg
I enjoyed the Moyers post, too. How true, how true. It'll be interesting to see if he responds to your generous mailing! Back in Canada when I used to canoe, I always made a point to go UPstream for starters. Then, once you're tired, you can practically just drift back to where you started. I'm glad you went down to enjoy the lake, however. I love just about any water I can access. We went on a swamp tour (with my Canadian visitor,) yesterday & Tuesday or Wednesday we're taking a short trip to Mississippi to spend a day at the beach. I grew up on the Atlantic, & I do start to miss her every so often... Keep up the great work. I love enjoying your stories in all of their aspects. Sorry for the recent absence (yet again, it seems,) but I've been busy playing tour guide. *L* Things will be back to normal later this week.
You know I love this post! I so know about remembering the water long after you are off it. And I agree with the previous comment--whenever possible, go upstream first (not always possible, as on my favorite river)! It sounds like you had a really special day--do it again soon!
Oh how I love to be on the water like that! I'm so glad you did that with your friend Caroline, even though the trip back was such a challenge. There's nothing like being on the water, although I'm more a kayak girl. Canoes are heavy!
You are brave to have carried the canoe for four blocks. I'm sure that was harder than it would be carrying it through woods or fields. But so glad you had such a wonderful experience. Happiest looking carp I ever saw! Also very glad you sent the copies to Bill Moyers.
Ludmilla, you captured the day beautifully. Caroline's Readers: Caro is a skilled canoeist! The trip upstream was a little harrowing because the current was so strong... but not as strong as Ms. C. And did you notice that she canoes in a *skirt*. Ever the lady! Laura
Great Post. Beautiful, engaging drawings and prose. I often get the urge to go canoeing (but never do). I read somewhere or other that such an urge is a wish for represents serenity, simplicity, and independence and a the desire to move ahead on your power – and it’s fun as well. Keep up the great work, DavidM
Wow, another great post! I'm going to be going up to my fiance's family cottage this weekend, which will result in a lot of kayaking. I can't wait! Your pictures certainly put me in the mood for some messing about on the river!
I felt as if I was on the canoe trip along with you! Your drawings blow me away - I especially like the one of you on the lake. The houses along the shoreline look wonderful.
You are amazing. I always wonder how long it takes for you to tell a story with drawings - wonderful photos - illustrated perfectly. I really need to find more time to visit here more often. My jaw hangs open when I come here, every time!
The sparkling lake. It would be on my mind for days. The illustration of dreaming while washing dishes is ME! Cracks me up!
Amazing! Your art is wonderful and charming, as always! What a wonderful day. A friend just sent me an email this morning wanting to know if I would like to buy her kayak. Then I came here and found your post. Maybe it's a sign? ;-) I love spending time on the water, too.
I've just been musing about your posts. I wonder if it's sometimes hard to hear about how much people love them... only because then there is the pressure to do things that are as "good" as that constant love implies. I've been thinking about this and I've come to an understanding that helps me get past it. I'm thinking that they (your works) are not loved -- or *I* don't love them -- because they are perfect. It's not about being "good" or perfect. It sounds like such a cliche, but part of why I love them is because they are human. And even the ones I don't LOVE love, I love anyway, even if they suck. (I'm smiling here because of course they never have.. yet.)
There is something about the spirit that makes all of that not really matter. Like suckiness wouldn't even be recognized.
It's just not in that realm.
If that makes sense and if I may expose my corniness for one little moment.
I have a feeling this is one of those times when the meaning just swells for the writer and the rest of us just look at the words like they were little twigs dropped on paper. :)
This is becoming more and more difficult for me. With each post you publish, I say to myself, "This is my favorite one! I love this one!" Silly, because I love them all. I can't get over how much you are able to convey with your words and your wonderful art. I find myself going back over each one more than once or twice. I can "slip" myself into each little picture, be there with you and savor the moment. Thank you, Caroline.

You have succeeded in making me want to rent a canoe... on a whim!
What a wonderful way to spend the day!
I love being on the water--and being out in it gives a perspective you can't get from shore!
The drawing of the lake with the carp jumping is magical. Now I want to go canoeing!

What fun and what a fun way for you to share it with us. I love your pictures, they invite the reader right into them.

A fun read and enjoyable artwork. I especially liked you dreaming while you did the dishes.
Happy week!
Super post. I love the water and being on and in the water. If I ever make it up there take me out in a canoe will you?

Whenever I want to visualize peace and calm for relaxation, a lake, with me alone in a boat, always comes to mind -- in color.
Looks like you had a lovely afternoon -- really that many carp jumping -- or is that artistic license?

C, did you give Bill M your URL?
