Love Squawky's vocabulary and your tropical flowers. And all the rest of course. Enjoy your sojourn at Laura's house. It's fun to have a break from the norm once in a while.
I love the 6th panel where you're standing in the morning light with your hands on your hips. You look so jaunty. Another winning post, thanks for making it!
Wonder how Phoebe and Squawky will react to the noise of fireworks tonight? love the illustration of the methods Phoebe and Squawky employ to get you out of bed and attend to their needs.
Squawky looks a bit like a conure in the photo--we used to have one. He would imitate the phone ringing four times and then the machine picking up with my voice saying "Hi!" And then four rings and "Hi!" Over and over. (He never got any more of the outgoing message past "Hi!") Phoebe is so pretty! Another great post!
I love animals so this post touched my heartstrings. Yes, they do tend to wake us up at odd hours and sometimes I feel more sleep deprived now than back when my children were little but the pleasures my animals give is tremendous.
I just bought an orange canary. I just figured they breed them for sale but maybe you are only talking about the larger birds. If they want to capture birds they ought to get the ones who have escaped and bred and now have huge flocks in southern California. I don't know if the birds are doing any harm in the local environment but they are certainly flourishing there.
I sure enjoyed your story again and the colors and drawings. They give a bright note to my day every time!
A waking bird is definitely not a slow process, is it? *LOL* Thanks for sharing the actual photos & the story behind Squawky being rescued. That makes my heart glad.
You are doing so well, just go with it. They will now be your friend for life. I love what you draw, a very special way to share. I should learn from it. We have two Beagles( Mattie Anne & LB) Also Our little Tabby cat Baxter, he maybe small, but he is a very large in his own mind. And sometimes we have Sunny my daughter Jenny's family do. He comes over for play dates with LB, they are best friends. They are fun to love.....Mary
You are a true friend, Caroline. I hope your friend enjoyed her restful vacation and now it's your turn to catch up on your sleep. Sounds like you thoroughly enjoyed it though.
Wonderful! Oh I love stories about animals and getting to see them here in your drawings and photos...fantastic Caroline. I'm glad they add so much energy to your life while you're taking care of them.
Caroline, I haven't posted in a while, but I never miss your postings! Thank you so much for sharing your life with us. I'm so glad you get to take care of these funny creatures while your friend is out of town. You have made my day - I get to look at my creatures in a new light.
You are so good-natured and kind. I would be a grump if I had to get up at 4.30AM. However, both Squawky and Phoebe are gorgeous so I couldn't help but get up for them. Like Laura I am totally against animal trafficking. A shocking practice.
Hi, sorry its been awhile but thanks for your comment on my blog :) I hope I manage to do everything on my list, and good luck with yours! I love your cartoon sketches, they make me want to try out that type of style, and this picture of Phoebe in the grass looks quite a lot like my crazy cat!
Even though I don't always comment, I come here to see you everyday. Even if you don't have a new post, I always enjoy looking at your drawings again. Sometimes I find things that I had missed the first time... such is the beauty of art. And then, of course, there are your wonderful stories...

I guess I'd forgotten that you had a parrot. Wow!
Have you seen the movie "The Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill"? It is a must see.
Both Phoebe and Squawky are sweeties. Very social animals. I like the picture of Phoebe waking you up. It's so typical of many cats I have known.

We have a green-eyed black cat like Phoebe who is also prone to waking us a bit early!
You have a good attitude about it all!

Oh, I am so laughing at the visual illustration of Squawky's noise!! It seems he must be aptly named. Another very enjoyable posting to view!
Guess you don't need an alarm clock and you even have a snooze setting. Nice pictures of the real models.
