Next time you go to Washington Island, I recommend a day trip to Rock Island (one more ferry ride away, no cars). It sure is beautiful up there, isn't it? Doesn't the air smell great? I'm glad you had the opportunity for some revivification.

Yes, ditto what Ed said. It is always good to get away, especially when you think you can't afford the time, the money, etc. etc. I love Washington Island. We always blast across it to catch the Rock Island ferry, and I always think we should come back and stay there for a different kind of vacation. Could you email me the name of the place you stayed? I also think I'd like to go and take a workshop at the fiber arts school there.

So glad to see a new story! Now I must show my ignorance by asking -- where is Washington Island? It looks like it was a beautiful vacation.

Hi I am Grace from Beijing. I like your pictures. Your blog is very beautiful and shows me a another world. Your life in color reminds me of my childhood -- I learned many things by seeing drawing like this. And now I have a place to go to learn about America. Your pictures are so full of peace and hop0e and the beautiful things of life. I hope someday I can draw like you. I am working with TR with the Olympics and he showed me your beautiful world and now I will come all the time. Thank you for sharing, Grace.

I'm glad that not only did you have a good time, but that it recharged your batteries. We all need that from time to time! Wish I were there to appreciate the music as well. Nothing like live music, y'know?

Hello Caroline...

You drawings are very wonderful... Just looking at them makes me feel nostalgic about my childhood days when I would just draw - not giving a cent whether they are good or not. But your drawings are very, very good.

I am adding you to my blog roll... More people should see your site, at least from my side of the globe...

Comments from China and from the Philippines. Caroline, your blog is reaching out to the world! As it should. Your drawings will show them a side of our lives they will not see on the screen or read about.

I enjoyed your vacation so much, and am happy to hear that it refreshed and recharged you. That's what a vacation is supposed to do, but often does not. It sounds like a beautiful part of the country.

Looks like a fantastic getaway to me! I'm glad you had such a great time. I love the illustration of the coffee house in particular, I love places like that. When you go to a place via ferry it's even more special, talk about an adventure!

It must be so exciting for you, Caroline... a whole new life, a new job, new friends and a wonderful vacation to share with them.
And, on top of all that you have the talent to put it into pictures.
I love it.

Is that Kermit the Frog playing the cello? It's not easy being green ...

I didn't mention before, I sat in a car outside of that coffee house one afternoon last summer, waiting for my friend to text her boyfriend or something ... I should have gone in. We were on Wash. Island replenishing our ice supply for camping on "the Rock."

Thanks for sharing it in art work!

Shopgirl: Since I know Caroline only has the opportunity to go online once a week or so, I'll take the liberty of answering your question; the Washington Island depicted in this post is in Wisconsin at the end of the Door County Peninsula which extends into Lake Michigan. It's a very cool place.

I've been to Washington Island. I love it there. The boat trip across was really rough for us, but well worth it. We didn't stay on the island, but rented a cottage in Bailey's Harbor. Glad you had such a great time. I feel like I've been there again after looking at your artwork.

I am glad that your little break led to you feeling 'revived' :-)

Revived is good!

Hi Caroline
I saw your article in the Artful Blogging magazine. I love your style. It's great that you use crayons instead of something high-tech. Your story about how you became an artist was so inspiring. It makes me think about what I could try now that my kids are leaving the house. Or maybe I'll start a blog.
